First Oval Office Project

The Litchfield Historical Society is thrilled to welcome the Museum of the American Revolution’s First Oval Office Project to the Tapping Reeve Meadow on October 3, 2026!

The First Oval Office Project is a handsewn reproduction of General George Washington’s mobile headquarters that was used as the command center of the Continental Army. The encampment includes this replica of Washington’s sleeping and office marquee as well as associated baggage and common soldiers’ tents, camp equipage, and furnishings. Visitors are invited to explore these replicas inside and out through immersive educational programming; try out replica equipment, tools, and uniforms, and engage with living history interpreters who bring to life the stories of the diverse people and complex events surrounding the Revolutionary War.

Taking place as the nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this event is a part of the Litchfield Historical Society’s yearlong series of programs and activities commemorating the United States Semiquincentennial. Stay tuned for updates and our specific program of events later this year.

General George Washington’s original sleeping and office tent from the Revolutionary War is on permanent display at the Museum of the American Revolution in historic Philadelphia.

Stay tuned as we announce times and more information about this exciting event!
