In order to protect our patrons, volunteers and staff, the Litchfield History Museum and the Tapping Reeve House and Litchfield Law School are closed for 2020.

The Helga J. Ingraham Memorial Library and our offices are also closed. See Here for information about research requests.

As of now, we do not have a reopening date, but hope to welcome back visitors in spring 2021.

A message from our Executive Director

Dear Friends:
We want to keep you informed, as you are close friends and supporters of the Litchfield Historical Society, of our response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
First, thank you for your generous support and loyalty to the LHS, which means so much in difficult times like these. As we continue to navigate this evolving situation, the health and well-being of our community remains our overriding concern. All of us here hope that you and your loved ones remain safe and secure.
The museums and library will remain closed until further notice. The staff is working from home and we want to keep in touch with you.
Please keep an eye on our website and social media channels, including FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for updates, interesting items from our collections, and activities for you and your family. For those looking to get out of the house, we will be leaving activity booklets and a scavenger hunt in a container at the Tapping Reeve Meadow. Please be mindful of social distancing, but enjoy our outdoor space during this time!
If you are looking to research, we are happy to help with whatever online resources we have available. Please visit our Research Page for access to our online database as well as links to other resources.
I want to thank you for your support of the Litchfield Historical Society. If you are are a member who supports us during the year, THANK YOU. If you joined us for walking tours, Pet Parade, or any of our public programs, THANK YOU. If you attended a special program or brought a school group, THANK YOU. If you supported our mission through the Annual Fund or at one of our Fundraisers, THANK YOU!

We look forward to welcoming you back to the museum, library and for events and  programs once we are able to reopen to the public. In the meantime, please take care of yourself, and thank you again for your support of the Litchfield Historical Society. We are so fortunate to have friends like you standing with us.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
