Knit Nights: Social Knitting Group with Alexandra Herst

Join us for a bi-weekly knitting & crafting social meetup at the Litchfield Historical Society, where you can meet other knitters, get your questions answered about tricky patterns, and expand your knowledge. No experience is necessary, just a desire to learn to knit! Bring a project to work on and enjoy the company of your fellow crafters. It's a great place to roundtable your ideas and workshop any hiccups you might be encountering in your project.
Hosted by Alexandra Herst, a local knitting & crafting enthusiast, is a deep believer in the capability of anyone to master the complexities of knitting, she takes the approach of empowering beginners through education to further their skills and encourage their creativity!

Litchfield Historical Society’s weekly walking tour is the perfect way to discover Litchfield’s vibrant history and explore the town’s celebrated Historic District. Each tour provides visitors with an overview of Litchfield’s history - from the stories behind famous landmarks to anecdotes about past residents to appreciation of prominent buildings.
Tours leave at 1:00 from the Litchfield History Museum (7 South Street) and last approximately 1 hour. The Historical Society also offers special themed tours. To learn more about themed walking tours, visit our online calendar for dates and times.

The Litchfield Historical Society is thrilled to welcome author Peter Vermilyea for a special talk on his newest book, Litchfield County and the Civil War on Sunday, June 2nd at 3:00 pm at the Litchfield History Museum. This lecture will also be streamed live via Zoom.
With a Union victory far from guaranteed, northern communities faced challenges on multiple fronts. In his talk, Peace Men: Dissent in the Civil War, Vermilyea will examine the question of what role was there for men and women who did not wish to serve or openly opposed the Civil War.
In addition to being a valued Board Member of the Litchfield Historical Society, Peter C. Vermilyea teaches history at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, Connecticut. A graduate of Gettysburg College, he is the director of the student scholarship program at his alma mater's Civil War Institute. Vermilyea is the author of Hidden History of Litchfield County (The History Press, 2014), which received the 2015 CultureMax Award, and Wicked Litchfield County (The History Press, 2016), as well as more than two dozen articles, mostly on Civil War history. He lives in Litchfield, Connecticut, with his wife and two sons.
