Biographical Notes:
Abigail Bromfield Rogers was the daughter of a wealthy merchant, Henry Bromfield, of Boston and London. After her mother died of smallpox, her father married Hannah Clarke of Boston. Clarke's sister later married the artist John Singleton Copley. Bromfield married Daniel Denison Rogers of Boston in 1781. The couple moved to London for a number of years, where they became good friends with John and Abigail Adams with whom they had been acquainted in Boston. Abigail Adams' correspondence remarks on witnessing Copley painting Mrs. Denison.
