Biographical Notes:

William Augustus Larned was born on June 23, 1806. After graduating from Yale in 1826, he taught in Salisbury, North Carolina for two years. He returned to Yale and tutored from 1828 to 1831. Instead of pursuing law, Larned studied Theology under Doctor Nathaniel William Taylor. For a year, Larned was the pastor of the Congregational Church in Millbury, Massachusetts. He later traveled to Troy, New York to teach Hebrew and Greek.

In 1839, Larned again, returned to Yale as Professor of Rhetoric and English Literature. He contributed to, The New Englander and served as editor from 1854 to 1855.
