Biographical Notes:
Patrick Calhoun was born in Ireland and immigrated to Virginia with his family as a child. His mother was one of the people killed during the French and Indian War. The "Long Canes Massacre" followed a boundary dispute between white settlers and Cherokee Indians. In 1765, he moved to Abbeville, SC. He served in the provincial legislature and the Revolutionary War. He died in 1796. His estate inventory listed sixteen enslaved men and boys and ten enslaved women and girls.
