Biographical Notes:
Jonathan Edwards Field was born July 11, 1813 to Rev. David Dudley Field, then the minister of the Congregational Church in Haddam, Connecticut. When Jonathan was six years old the family relocated to Stockbridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from Williams College in 1832 and studied law in the New York law office of his brother, David Dudley Field. In 1833 he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and was admitted to the bar the following year. He was elected clerk of the courts in Ann Arbor in 1836, and was one of the Secretaries of the Convention that framed the Michigan Constitutuion before its admission to the Union.
