Biographical Notes:
Isaac Watkins was the youngest son of Thomas and Sally Watson Watkins. Following his father's death, his mother remarried and the family moved to Kentucky. He attained the rank of Major during the War of 1812. After the death of his first wife, Pauline Thurston, following the birth of their son Robert Anderson Watkins, Isaac Watkins married Marie Toncre, with whom he had two children who survived to adulthood.

Following a financial setback, Watkins relocated to Arkansas where he constructed the first frame residence in Little Rock. In 1822, he completed construction of a horse mill to grind grain. He was murdered in 1827 by a man who named John Smith, who was angered that Williams discovered Smith had stolen his livestock. Smith was never captured.
