Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Bernice Fuessenich collection consists of photographs, invoices, programs, invitations, advertising, brochures, dance cards, calling cards, and other ephemera documenting cultural, social, religious, and business activities in Litchfield, Conn., 1897-1976. Among the subjects covered are drama productions, church dedications and services, horse shows, minstrel shows, dances and balls, businesses and restaurants. There are also receipts for goods and services. Some of the papers relate to the George Ives and George Barber families. Also included are genealogical records, photographs and papers about the Beach, Dickinson, Webster, and Fuessenich families.

Anderson, arborist, advertisement for complete tree service; Milton Flower Farms 1929 and 1930 price lists for rock plants and perennials; a 1926 from Ernest C. Fritz, jeweler;  a commemorative issue currency from The Connecticut Bankers Assoc. for the Laurel Bank; photocopies about banks in town; and "Welcome to Litchfield" a brochure by E.J. Murphy Realty. Also a page of Litchfield and Morris business names and addresses clipped from envelopes and letterheads which includes inns and camps, and on the reverse side are New York city hotel logos.

State Council of Defense, to be held in Colonial Hall on April 8, 1918; Litchfield Fire Company Constitution and By-Laws, revised to April 1, 1923; Litchfield Grange drama program and greeting card (1914); Litchfield Lions Club charter night dance at the Litchfield Playhouse, April 29, 1950 includes a list of officers and members; letter to members of The Men's Forum of Litchfield, dated Nov. 5, 1935; and a postcard for a meeting on July 18, 1921 of The Village Improvement Company executive committee sent to Miss Esther Thompson, South St., Litchfield.
