Introduction
THE DEMING FAMILY came to Litchfield in 1781 when Julius Deming
settled here with his wife, Dorothy Champion. Deming was a Revolutionary
War veteran who later made his fortune in trade. He remained a source
of pride for the family, which created or commissioned objects with
his name and likeness well into the 20th century. Some descendants
remain in Connecticut today, and others retain ties to the area.
