Front of Catalog
The Litchfield Historical Society is pleased to introduce the catalog accompanying the exhibit, To Please Any Taste: Litchfield County Furniture and Furniture Makers, 1780-1830. It will include 82 pages, 62
full color images and list of over 500 joiners working in Litchfield
County. The catalog contains:
- Forward, by Catherine Keene Fields, Director
- Introduction, by Edward S. Cooke, Jr.
- Town Histories, by Ann Y. Smith
- Litchfield County Joiners, by Derin Bray
- Furniture Forms, by Derin Bray
- Furniture Characteristics, by Ann Y. Smith
- List of Litchfield County Joiners by Derin Bray
- Acknowledgements
The catalog will come with a CD which will include all of the furniture
identified with the county, including many details of construction
features. The CD will include approximately 200 individual examples
illustrated with 5 to 8 images each and will enable users to search by
town, maker, form and date. The CD will provide those interested in
the minute details of the furniture the information they need, will
provide a more searchable format than a bulky text and can be easily
updated as new research projects are completed.
The catalog was made possible by a generous gift from Peter and Jeffrey Tillou.
