Biographical Notes:
David Dudley Field was the eldest child of the Rev. David Dudley Field, pastor of the Congregational Church in Stockbridge. Born in 1805, the younger Field began his legal studies in 1825 in Stockbridge. He then continued his legal studies in Albany, and finally in New York City. On October 26, 1829 he married Lucinda Hopkins Field in Stockbridge. After their marriage the couple reisded in New York City, where they had their three children. Lucinda passed away on January 1, 1836. David Dudley Field went on to become one of the leading trial and appellate lawyers in New York and before the U.S. Supreme Court, and one of the most important law reformers in American history. He married twice again after his first wife's death, and all of his wives predeceased him. He died in New York on April 19, 1894.
