Biographical Notes:
Elijah Wadsworth was born on November 14, 1747, in Hartford, Connecticut. A blacksmith by trade, Wadsworth was dedicated to several different pursuits. He was one of the first participants of the Connecticut Land Company. He also influenced the development of a postal route from Pittsburgh to the Northeast. Later, in 1801, he was appointed Post Master in Canfield, Ohio. In 1803 he was elected Sheriff of Trumbull County. From 1803-1804, he was Major-General of the Fourth Division, which encompassed the northern half of Ohio. In 1802 he officially moved his family to Canfield and built a house there. Wadsworth was also a Major-General in the War of 1812. After battling paralysis, he died on December 30, 1817. He was survived by five of his children - Henry, Frederick, Edward, George, and Rhonda.
