Biographical Notes:
Aaron Burr Sr. was born in 1716 into a wealthy Connecticut family, a child of Daniel and Elizabeth Burr. He graduated from Yale at the top of his class in 1735, remaining there for an extra year to study theology. He became involved with the religious revival and converted to Calvinism; he was ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church in 1736. Aaron worked with other Presbyterians to obtain a charter for the College of New Jersey (later to become Princeton University) in 1746. After the institution's first president died mere months into his term, Aaron became President in 1748, an office which he held for almost a decade until his death in 1757. He was heavily influential in establishing the reputation and educational standards for the fledgling college.
