Watercolor memorial or mourning painting done by Susannah (Susan) Pettibone on the death of her grandfather, Col. Giles Pettibone (d.1810), a prominent early settler of Norfolk, CT. His wife and the grandmother of the artist, Desiah Pettibone, had died in 1774.
