Not all Female Academy students were girls. A number of young boys also attended the school. Most of the young women who attended did not go on to have a profession in its modern sense. The “profession” section includes the few who did, as well as those who were active in social reform movements.

A note about names: Many women who attended the Female Academy later married and changed their names one or more times. It is standard practice to list individuals by the most recent name by which they were known. Therefore, the student browse page lists Female Academy students by their last married name. If you are looking for a particular student and do not know her married name, please use the search feature.
