Lord declines the position of pastor citing a call from his own people in New Hartford and noting some opposition to him in Litchfield.

Letter written in response to a call for Brace to become the pastor. He accepts the call and explains  his rational for doing so despite fears of poor health and fears of inadequacy. He declines the generous salary offered and asks for the same amount given to the previous pastor. Suggests June 12 as his date for ordination.

Letter to Frederick Buel regarding the ministry of the First Congregational Church. Swan expresses his reservations about the position and proposes that he accept the call conditionally.
