Four music books, primarily manuscript, one dated 1818 and three undated. Housed in aisle 3A, Box 30b.

Biographical Note

Lucy Sheldon Beach was the daughter of Huldah Stone Sheldon (1759-1817) and Dr. Daniel Sheldon (1750-1840) of Litchfield, Conn. She attended the Litchfield Female Academy from 1801 until 1803. In 1832, she married wealthy Litchfield merchant Dr. Theron Beach (1785-1864). They had no children. At some point in the mid-1800s, Elizbeth Prince Child, Lucy's first cousin once removed (Elizabeth was the granddaughter of Lucy's aunt Dothe Stone Cutler (1756-1805)), moved in with her. Lucy lived in the Sheldon house on North Street for her entire life and died in 1889.

A number of pages appear to have been removed from a larger volume and pasted in to this.

Includes Handel's Celebrated Water Music, The Battle of Prague for the Piano Forte (above which is written in pencil, "My dear Beloved Mr. Brace), The Galley Slave, Orphan Bess the Beggar Girl, and several manuscript song sheets in the back including Major Andre's Complaint and Denmark.
