Notes and Proceedings of the Connecticut Land Company, 1795-1809
[Back to Formatted Version]
Brief Description:

The Notes and Proceedings of the Connecticut Land Company (1953-29-0) is a leather bound book containing notes and proceedings from meetings of the Connecticut Land Company. The Connecticut Land Company was an association created to promote settlement of the Connecticut Western Reserve; land in modern day North-Eastern Ohio.

Although this is the first of two volumes, the second is not held by the Litchfield Historical Society. A table of contents was inserted at a later date. The volume includes articles describing how the Connecticut Land Company will be run such as how stocks will be divided and duties of the directors. The bulk of the notes are comprised of minutes of meetings of the Company. Properties in the Connecticut Northwestern Reserve are documented with lot number, lot size, and lot boundaries. Newspaper clippings inside the front cover reference the Connecticut Northwestern Reserve and the Connecticut Land Company. A pamphlet by Henry Barnard, Superintendent of Common Schools, entitled “History of the School Fund of Connecticut” is inserted in the back with a table of contents for the second volume.

Located in aisle 3A Box 22.
