Brief Description:

The Ella A. Pierce diary (2011-31-0) contains personal entries for the year 1877. Common entries discuss school, household tasks (such as dusting, washing dishes, baking, and bedmaking), and sewing and quilting. At the time the diary was begun Ella A. Pierce was seventeen years old and living with her mother and siblings in Roxbury, Connecticut. The diary also contains many references to teenage socializing in the nineteenth century, and frequently has passing references to her future husband, Charles Garlick.
