Volunteer Opportunities

Program Assistant
Help run special programs for visitors of all ages. Assist with researching, gathering materials, and working with visitors. We especially need program volunteers to help with school groups at the Tapping Reeve House and Law School and the Litchfield History Museum.

Museum Assistant
Greet visitors, sell tickets, sell gift shop items, and answer questions at the Litchfield History Museum. Museum Assistants should enjoy sharing information about Litchfield and chatting with visitors. The museum can be very quiet or very busy. Volunteers usually work in two-hour shifts.

Curatorial Assistant
Assist with a collections inventory. Projects might include completing condition reports, re-housing and re-locating objects, database entry, and collections research. Volunteers will be trained in care and handling.

Tour Guide
Give tours both to locals and groups of tourists. We need guides to lead occasional, pre-scheduled tours of the center of town, as well as of both the Tapping Reeve House and the Litchfield History Museum. We will provide guides with tour outlines.

Special Events Assistant
Help plan and run occasional special programs for children and adults, including performances, craft workshops, lectures, holiday parties--such as the Victorian Valentine Workshop, and TV Turn Off Week (with Center School).

Archives Assistant
Support on-going special projects in the library’s archives, including indexing, re-housing, and cataloguing materials; maintaining computer data bases; and transcribing letters and diaries onto a word-processor. Work in the (usually) serene environment of the Ingraham Memorial Research Library.

Exhibition Assistant
Help design and create exhibition displays. Research topics related to upcoming exhibitions.

The Litchfield Historical Society will provide training for each volunteer position. For more information, or to volunteer, please call 567-4501.
